Invisalign (Clear Braces)

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign are technically clear braces. They are often recommended as a great alternative to traditional braces because unlike traditional braces, they are removable, they offer a more discreet appearance, they are a lot less messy, and they are more comfortable to wear. They also serve the same purpose which is to fix and improve orthodontic problems such as crooked and misaligned teeth.

Invisalign is made of clear elasticized plastic to put pressure on your teeth and allow it to shift. Invisalign can fix or repair include the following: overcrowding, overbite, underbite, crossbite, gaps and spaces between teeth, and inadequate space in the mouth for other types of dental work.

Benefits of Invisalign

  • It is removable
  • Doesn’t restrict your eating habits
  • Can fix misaligned and crowded teeth
  • Practically invisible
  • Easier and more comfortable to wear
  • Requires fewer trips to the dentist for potential dental emergencies and inconveniences
  • Can provide optimal results in just 9 to 15 months or even less

Invisalign Treatment

  • Our dentist will evaluate your teeth and determine if Invisalign is the correct option for you.
  • A digital impression of your teeth using a digital scanner will be made to create an accurate and precise treatment plan for you.
  • The custom-designed Invisalign clear aligner will then be created for your treatment process
  • Every time you come back as required by our dentist, a new set of slightly modified Invisalign will be used as a replacement so that the goal of gradually moving teeth into a straighter position will be made possible. Call our office today for more details!

Dental Braces

Dental braces are one of the most popular orthodontic treatments that many dental practises offer. They are commonly worn by children to fix orthodontic concerns while their teeth are at the stage where they are more conducive to straightening and while their mouths are still growing. In fact, the ideal time to wear braces is between the ages of 10 to 14. However, dental braces cater to different age groups, as well, and not just to children.

Traditional metal braces are made of a series of brackets and wires. It is assembled in a way where the small brackets are attached/glued on each tooth, a thin wire is threaded through the brackets, and small elastic bands are securing the wires and the brackets. Their purpose is to move teeth into the desired position to make them appear straighter.

What orthodontic concerns can braces treat?

Braces can be an ideal treatment for a number of mild to severe orthodontic concerns such as:

  • Teeth that are crowded or too close together
  • Spaces and gaps between the teeth
  • Teeth that are crooked or misaligned
  • Bite irregularities such as overbite, underbite, crossbite, etc

Traditional Braces in NE Calgary

Traditional Braces

When you hear the word braces, you most likely think of those bulky metal brackets with wires. Modern dental brackets are now smaller, less noticeable, and just as effective as the older bulkier ones. They’re easier to keep clean and much more comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • At what age can I get orthodontic treatment?
  • Do braces hurt?
  • What foods should I avoid with braces?
  • My wire, brackets or tray broke. What now?
  • How do I floss with braces?
  • How long do braces take?
At what age can I get orthodontic treatment?
Ideally, orthodontic treatment would occur in younger patients before most adult teeth have arrived. If you are a parent, we recommend bringing your teen in for a consultation. But don’t worry! There are orthodontic treatment options available for adults too! It’s never too late.
Do braces hurt?
Braces do not hurt when they are first applied. After they begin to shift your teeth some discomfort may be felt. Most patients describe the feeling as more annoying than painful. That being said, if you have any pain or discomfort, let us know! There are solutions available to make your treatment as comfortable as possible
What foods should I avoid with braces?
Avoid food that might damage your braces (like candy apples, caramel, or corn on the cob) or may be difficult to clean out of braces (like caramel, gum and popcorn). You may also want to avoid sugary or acidic foods which will be more difficult than usual to clean off your teeth. Clear braces can become stained by some foods like beets, curry and kraft dinner.
My wire, brackets or tray broke. What now?
Call us right away! Don’t wait until your next appointment.
How do I floss with braces?
Floss threaders and super floss are available and specially designed for flossing your braces or permanent retainers. We’d be happy to show you how to floss your braces at your next appointment.
How long do braces take?
For small changes, orthodontic treatment can be as short as 6 months but for the majority of patients, braces will stay on for between 6 months and 2 years. We can give you a more accurate estimate after an oral exam.
